Police in Wells are urging drivers to be vigilant after a rise in thefts from vehicles across the city.
Officers say several incidents have been reported in recent weeks, prompting neighbourhood teams to step up patrols in car parks and busy tourist spots. The warning comes as Wells prepares for the busy Christmas shopping period, when police expect footfall — and opportunities for thieves — to increase.
A police spokesperson said they had been carrying out "foot, bike and mobile patrol around the local car parks and tourist locations", adding that this will "continue to be our focus with Christmas being a very busy time with shoppers".
Residents are being urged to take basic precautions such as locking vehicles at all times and removing anything that may catch a thief's eye.
Police are also asking drivers not to leave valuables on show, and to report any suspicious activity via 101 or the Avon and Somerset Police website.
Anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage that could help with ongoing enquiries is encouraged to contact the neighbourhood team.
