Wells residents are being urged to stay alert after a recent spike in house burglaries and attempted break-ins across the area.

Local police have reported that burglars are targeting homes in search of car keys, money, and jewellery, with several incidents taking place in recent weeks.

Officers are encouraging the community to work together and remain vigilant, particularly during the night.

In a statement, police advised residents to take extra precautions, such as keeping car keys out of sight and not leaving them in doors or visible places. "It's best to take your keys with you at night to avoid making them an easy target," the statement said.

Residents are also being asked to report any suspicious activity, including noting vehicle registrations and providing descriptions where possible. Reports can be made via 999 in an emergency, 101 for non-urgent matters, or through the online reporting system.

The police are continuing their investigations into the recent burglaries and are working with the local community to increase security measures and awareness.

For more information on crime prevention and how to protect your home, residents are encouraged to visit the Avon and Somerset Police website.
