Seventy singers from Millfield School will collaborate with British composer Helen Ostafew to present a choral concert at Wells Cathedral on Tuesday, 19 March.

This event marks the Wells premiere of Ostafew's 'Requiem for Humanity', a piece that uniquely combines elements from Buddhism, Daoism, Judaism, and the Latin mass, along with inspirational quotes from Gandhi and poetry by Yates and W. H. Auden.

The concert, featuring the Millfield Community Choir, promises an evening of musical diversity and cultural enrichment. The programme includes Benjamin Britten's 'Rejoice in the Lamb', performed by Millfield's chamber choir Camerata, Wolfgang A. Mozart's 'Ave Verum Corpus', by the Millfield Community Choir, and Malcolm Arnold's 'Little Suite No. 2', presented by the Millfield Orchestra.

Helen Ostafew, a Somerset-based composer, is renowned for her work as a composer, singer, pianist, and conductor. Her compositions, such as the 'Requiem for Humanity', have gained international recognition for their innovative and diverse styles.

Kirsty Barry, Millfield's Director of Music said: "We're excited to be working with a living and local composer on such a fresh and interesting interpretation of the traditional Requiem. Our performance of Helen Ostafew's Requiem for Humanity feels important, relevant, and meaningful in our world today. We are also delighted that Helen will be with us at the concert."

The concert is open to the public and free of charge, with tickets available for booking through Eventbrite. A retiring collection will be taken for charity.
