Louis, Wells Cathedral's beloved cat, passed away yesterday (November 14) after a short illness.

Found as a stray more than 16 years ago, Louis was the Cathedral Yard Cat before becoming the Cathedral Cat.

As he wandered in and around the cathedral Louis encountered visitors, concert goers and congregation and was loved by all.

He's had a book written about him and been featured on The One Show.

The cathedral's chief operating officer, Jackie Croft, said: "It is with heavy hearts we say goodbye and goodnight to the gentlemanly, charismatic, adorable Ginger Boy and our thanks go to Axe Valley Vets and Shepton Vets for caring for Louis so well throughout his very full and eventful life. He will be greatly missed by all."
