Invisible chips raise real cash as Swan Hotel diners serve up kindness
Diners at The Swan Hotel in Wells have been making a unique contribution to charity by purchasing portions of "invisible chips," raising significant funds for Hospitality Action.
The unusual dish is extremely low in calories, given that they are fictional fries, which allow patrons to make a £2 donation to the charity, which supports those working in the hospitality industry during difficult times.
This initiative has been a success across the Coaching Inn Group, which owns 35 hotels and inns in market towns across the UK, including The Swan Hotel. In 2023 alone, generous customers helped raise £7,390 for the cause through their purchases of invisible chips.
Adam Charity, Chief Operating Officer of the Coaching Inn Group, expressed his gratitude for the generosity of diners, noting that the group's ethos revolves around providing "hospitality from the heart" to the communities they serve.
"Thanks to our generous community customers and hotel guests, we have been able to donate more than £35,000 to Hospitality Action over the past four years," said Charity.
Founded in 1837, Hospitality Action provides vital support to workers in the hospitality industry, including those in hotels, restaurants, cafes, bars, and even schools and hospitals. The funds raised go towards offering assistance to people facing hardship, ensuring that the industry's backbone—the staff—have somewhere to turn in times of crisis.
