Historic Bishop’s Palace wins funding for care home outreach project

The Bishop's Palace in Wells has been awarded a grant from the Historic Houses Small Grants Project for an initiative designed to bring its heritage to care home residents across the area.
The "Gardens and Wildlife of The Bishop's Palace Outreach Project" will be delivered in collaboration with Museum To You and aims to make the site's history and beauty accessible to those who can no longer visit in person.
The funding programme supports projects that have a long-term public benefit, and the HHS committee said it was "thrilled to support" the Palace's initiative, calling it "innovative and affordable in bringing local heritage to a hard-to-reach audience".
The new programme will focus on older adults living in care settings across the area, offering interactive sessions about the Palace and its gardens. The initiative aims to combat social isolation, foster connections and enable people to rediscover memories of the site.
Through these activities, participants will have the chance to learn, share knowledge and stories, and benefit from a stronger sense of belonging and community.
A spokesperson for The Bishop's Palace said: "This project allows us to reach people who may no longer be able to visit and to give them the chance to reconnect with a place that holds special memories. It's about sharing heritage, sparking conversations and building connections across generations."
