Crandon Springs Care Home Gardening Club Blossoms

By Ruth Cooke 23rd Jun 2025

Residents of Crandon Springs Care Home, are reaping the rewards of their green-fingered efforts, thanks to the flourishing Gardening Club led by Activities Coordinator, Emily.

Since it got under way in early April, the club has transformed the home's raised garden area into a vibrant, accessible and inclusive space for residents to enjoy, alongside the spacious garden where residents and visitors can spend time together, sitting, socialising or taking a stroll.

The Gardening Club boasts its own dedicated area, complete with a greenhouse and a raised flower bed designed for easy access, ensuring all residents, including those using wheelchairs, can participate fully. Under Emily's enthusiastic leadership, members have engaged in a variety of activities, from weeding and planting, to crafting supportive frames for climbing plants, with many trips to garden centres for inspiration (and tea and cake).

The club's efforts have not gone unnoticed. The raised bed and greenhouse now showcase an array of blooms, including sweet peas, sunflowers, cosmos, nasturtiums, runner beans, French beans, tomatoes, and baby cucumbers. These vibrant displays have become a source of pride and joy for the Crandon Springs community.

Meg Cleal, General Manager at Crandon Springs commented, "Whether the skies are grey or sunny, our green-fingered residents are regularly out in the garden with Emily from our Activities Team, donning sun hats or waterproofs, and tending their plants with great care" .

Emily and her Activities Team colleague Kath, are committed to creating a vibrant, active environment for residents, and this is evident in every aspect of the Gardening Club's activities which are enjoyed by experienced and novice gardeners alike.
