As the weekend beckons and the half term holiday inches closer, Wells is full with activities and events that promise to sprinkle some fun, learning, and adventure into your days.

With an eye on the week ahead, we're casting a wider net to include exciting events a little further afield, perfect for family outings during the school break.

The musical heritage of the 60s will come alive this Saturday, 10th February, at Cedars Hall with "The Searchers Experience." Spencer James, the voice behind the band's classics like "Sweets for my Sweets" and "Needles and Pins," will take you on a nostalgic journey through their hits. For a night of melody and memories, and to learn more about this musical odyssey, make sure to visit The Searchers Experience.

If the cosmos intrigues you, join Hugh Allen at Ashwick & Oakhill Village Hall for "Reaching Across the Gulf of Space," a celebration of William Huggins' 200th birthday on the same day. This event promises an enlightening look at the pioneering work of Huggins in astronomical spectroscopy, capped off with a stargazing session under Oakhill's dark skies. Dive into the universe's mysteries and find more details here.

As we step into half term, Wells Cathedral offers a palette of "Saints and Songbirds" activities from 12th to 14th February. Whether it's stitching a story, making a bird feeder, or embarking on a saints trail, these activities are designed to engage the creative minds of your little ones. Drop in or book online at Wells Cathedral Family Activities.

Don't miss the "Snowdrop Celebrations" at The Bishop's Palace, a herald of spring in the stunning gardens around the moat. Partnering with the Shepton Snowdrops Festival, the event features walks and talks about these early bloomers, including tales of James Allen, The Snowdrop King. Venturing a bit further from Wells, Longleat's "Winter Wildlife Week" from 10th–18th February offers an exciting exploration of the animal kingdom. Haynes Motor Museum in Sparkford invites families for a gear-shifting adventure during the same dates. For those looking for a theatrical escape, "MADAGASCAR- A Musical Adventure" at Strode Theatre in Street on 10th and 11th February promises a roaring good time. And for a quieter Sunday activity, the Coffee in the Village Hall event in Dinder on 11th February offers a cozy community vibe.

As always, you can pop along to Wells Film Centre to catch the latest releases for just £5 per ticket.

This half term, Wells and its surrounding areas are packed with events that span musical tributes, astronomical discoveries, crafty creations, and the first whispers of spring. Whether you're keen to dive into the past, explore the stars, indulge in creative pursuits, or simply enjoy the beauty of nature as it awakens, there's something to make this half term memorable for everyone.
