A look at the life and work of one of Britain's pioneers of astronomy, followed by a chance to observe the night sky (weather permitting).
In the 1860's Sir William Huggins was the British pioneer of astronomical spectroscopy. By spreading the light from stars into rainbows with a prism, William revolutionised our understanding of the Universe and helped lay the foundations of modern astronomy. The talk will celebrate William's life and work, just a few days after his 200th birthday.Hugh Allen is WMA Chairman and a passionate amateur spectroscopist.
Weather permitting we will observe afterwards on the rec ground under the dark skies of Oakhill.
