First look at Wells Rugby Club’s new HQ – bar, skittles and three full-size pitches

Wells Rugby Club is set for a major upgrade – and now we've got the first glimpse of what its new home could look like.
An artist impression shows the bold plans for a purpose-built clubhouse off the A371 Portway, complete with a skittle alley, bar, three full-size pitches and room for over 140 cars.
The club is looking to move from its long-standing base off Charter Way to make room for 106 new homes, part of a housing scheme led by Stonewater.

Designed by Boon Brown Architects, the new facility promises to be more than just a sports ground – with function rooms, a members' bar and enough space for carveries, conferences and club nights.
"The clubhouse has been designed to serve both the rugby club and the wider community," a spokesperson said. "It's about keeping the spirit of the club alive while creating something modern and versatile."
The new site would be surrounded by recently approved housing developments – and if plans go ahead, the nearby Strawberry Line could run right past the gates, offering a new route for walkers and cyclists heading towards Cheddar.
Somerset Council is expected to make a decision on the project later this year.
