Drunk man arrested after assault and criminal damage on Wells High Street

A man has been arrested in Wells after allegedly assaulting a passer-by and causing criminal damage during a drunken incident on the High Street.

The drama unfolded late on Wednesday night (23 April), when a member of the public called police to report the disturbance.

Officers responded quickly and detained the man at the scene. He was then taken into custody for questioning.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police confirmed: "Following a call from a member of public late last night, 23 April 2025, officers attended Wells High Street regarding a drunk male who had caused criminal damage and assaulted a passer-by.

"Officers detained the male for the offences and he was conveyed to custody."

The force has not yet released further details about the suspect or the extent of the damage.
