First cider and cheese festival to be held inside Wells Cathedral

Wells Cathedral will throw open its doors next month for its first ever Cider & Cheese Festival, celebrating two of Somerset's best-loved traditions.
The event on Saturday 27 September will see cider and cheese makers from across the county set up inside the cathedral, offering tastings, talks and the chance to meet local producers. A programme of live music and family activities will run throughout the day.
The Very Reverend Toby Wright, Dean of Wells, said: "At Wells Cathedral, we are pursuing the bold ambition to become this country's most joyful cathedral. And as part of that vision, we want to ensure that Wells Cathedral is a place where the whole of our local community feels warmly welcomed."
He added: "Bringing together Somerset's rich tradition of world-class cider and cheese makers in this beautiful cathedral will, I am sure, be a truly joyful occasion for everyone."
Among the cider makers taking part will be Bray's Cider, made from apples grown in regenerative orchards near Wrantage, as well as Mudgley favourite Wilkins Cider, Burrow Hill, Sheppy's, Thatchers and many more. Gin from Still Sisters, wines from Canned Wine Co. and non-alcoholic options from Wise Bartender will also be on offer.
Cheese producers include Wookey Hole Cheddar, The Bath Soft Cheese Company, Barber's, Glastonbury Cheeses, Lye Cross Farm and The Newt in Somerset.
Entertainment will come from Somerset tribute band The Mangledwurzels, community choir PRP Contemporary Voices, and covers band Jukebox Banned.
The Wells Cathedral Cider & Cheese Festival runs from 12 noon to 9pm on Saturday 27 September. Tickets are £17.50 for adults and £12.50 for under-18s, including entry, two half-pint drink tokens, a commemorative glass and event programme. Extra drink tokens will be available on the day for £2.50.
