Italian festival returns to Wells with music, dance, and delicious cuisine next month.

The Romulus & Remus Festa Italiana, a staple in celebrating Italian culture and heritage in Somerset, is set to take place once more at Palace Farm in Wells on Sunday 14th July, with gates opening at 12.30pm.

Originally started over 20 years ago, the festival honours the statue of Romulus and Remus located on the outskirts of Wells at Green Ore.

This statue was crafted in 1945 by Gaetano Celestra, an Italian prisoner of war during his time at Penleigh POW Camp, as a gesture of gratitude towards the local community and his employer for their kindness.

Following the war, many Italian POWs settled in the area.

This year's festivities promise an exciting lineup of performances featuring local tenor Tim Pitman, the Lui, Mimmo and John Trio, saxophonist Tim Fulker, Marvin Muoneké, and The Pashy Pops.

Attendees can look forward to a lively day filled with dancing, authentic Italian food, and wine, suitable for the entire family. Guests are welcome to purchase food and drinks at the event or bring their own picnics.

Additionally, the festival serves as a fundraiser for the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance and other local charities. Tickets are priced at £15 for adults and £10 for children aged 10 to 16, with free entry for children under 10. Last year's event sold out, so early ticket booking is recommended.
