The Wells Christmas Market takes place on Saturday, 14 December 2024, from 9 am to 3 pm. It's a one-day event that transforms the historic Market Place and Bishop's Palace Green into a festive wonderland.

Where is Wells Christmas Market held?

You'll find the market in the heart of Wells, Somerset's smallest city. The main event will take place in the Market Place and on Bishop's Palace Green, surrounded by the stunning backdrop of Wells Cathedral and the Bishop's Palace.

What can visitors expect?

This year's market features over 100 stalls, offering a wide range of handmade gifts, artisan products, and festive food and drink. Whether you're shopping for unique Christmas presents or indulging in seasonal treats, there's plenty to enjoy.

Expect to find everything from locally crafted jewellery and artwork to gourmet snacks and mulled wine to keep you warm.

Who will open the market?

The market will be officially opened at 11 am by Cllr Federica Smith-Roberts, Lead Member for Communities, Housing and Culture, alongside the Wells Town Crier, Len Sweales.

Cllr Smith-Roberts said: "I'm excited to open the Christmas market and welcome everyone to our beautiful city.  I am proud to support small and local businesses, and the market is a perfect opportunity to shop local this Christmas.  

This season is special for spending time with loved ones, and the market is a magical where we hope the market's festive spirit creates lasting memories.  See you there!" 

How to get to Wells Christmas Market

Wells is easily accessible by car or public transport, but visitors are advised that parking is limited in the city. Instead, consider using public transport, with Wells served by several bus routes. The £2 single fare cap is in place until 31 December 2024, making travel affordable and stress-free.

The market is organised by Somerset Council's Mendip Markets team, who are dedicated to creating a successful and memorable event for residents and visitors alike.
