Despite the recent easing of restrictions, we remain deep into the coronavirus lockdown, and Wells residents are doing their bit to make sure the spread of Covid-19 is kept to a minimum.

Visit Somerset have told tourists to only visit Wells if they are coming for exercise and live within an hour's drive.

Meanwhile, the manager of the Mendip Hills AONB has praised the behaviour of visitors to beauty spots in and around the city.

Building contractor Melhuish and Saunders is offering free installation of health protection equipment to schools preparing to reopen, while Mendip YMCA has praised the support of the city community, as its Spencer House garden makeover is proving its worth for residents.

Keeping spirits up have been the cygnets on the Bishop's Palace moat, and the seven have now been named following suggestions from the public.

The government has announced that Mendip District Council is going to receive £102,000 to boost high streets such as the one in Wells, and district councillor Lois Rogers has expressed surprise that European money is being used for the funding.

Wells residents are showing resilience and continuing to go about their work and look after their families in as safe a way as possible.
