A 10-day programme of environmental events is coming to Wells this October — with everything from fungus forays and food debates to skateboarding and cycle repair.

Ecoweek 2025 launches at 10am on Saturday 11 October at Wells Town Hall with the unveiling of the newly adopted Act to Adapt Plan. The opening day will include workshops on topics such as attracting wildlife to gardens, managing stormwater, and building stronger communities.

The afternoon will feature a public debate titled Good Food for All, with local producers and sustainability experts discussing affordability, resilience and food security.

Running until Saturday 18 October, the festival will host activities across the city, including mindfulness walks, nature trails, litter picks, school programmes, and sessions on repairing, recycling and repurposing.

Wells Library will host themed events, while schools will focus on practical ways young people can contribute to protecting the environment.

The final day of Ecoweek will take place at Wells Recreation Ground and The Bishop's Barn, promising a packed family-friendly schedule. There will be pop-up skate ramps, active travel workshops, a community cycle ride, bike security marking, and stalls from the Strawberry Line team, who will update residents on the path's ongoing expansion.

Local refreshments will be available from Valentine's Coffee Stand and Soul Dough's Pizzas.

Organisers say the events aim to connect people of all ages — "from tots to teenagers, skateboarders to pensioners" — and help the whole community take meaningful steps in response to climate change and biodiversity loss.
