Married acoustic duo Lorraine and Jeremy Millington, a.k.a. The Portraits, have held a sell-out album launch concert at Andelli Art Gallery in Wells and, by donating 20 per cent of their album sales and holding a collection at the concert, raised more than £300 in essential funds for the Wells Blue School PTA.

The new album of songs, For Our Times, has been entirely created in the duo's adopted home city of Wells, from conception to mastering, with a number of Blue School students performing instrumental parts on the recording.

Songs from the record have already been championed on BBC 6 Music by Tom Robinson, who has described the duo as "irresistible and irrepressible".

For Our Times is an album of 13 songs about 2019, in particular the divisions in politics and fortune which echo through today's world.

Blue School students performing on the record include flautist Sam Jordan, saxophonist Bryn Jennings and harpist Flora Mackintosh Allen as well as Ciara Millington, Lorraine and Jeremy's daughter, on violin.

The album cover and photography also came from local designer Andy Jennings and photographer Neil Juggins.

Galway-born singer Lorraine, who also co-chairs the Blue School PTA, and her Bristolian husband Jeremy, who performed at 2019's Glastonbury Festival, say that they are delighted.

Lorraine said: "The concert in Wells was without a doubt our best live event of 2019 so far.

"All the elements fell into place: we had a wonderful, packed crowd, were joined on stage by some super up-and-coming musical talent, and raised considerable funds for the school. It was a win-win-win."

Attending the concert, Blue School headteacher Mark Woodlock said: "I thought the concert was very good and it was terrific to hear of the sums raised – thank you very much to all involved."
