Croscombe is once again battling floodwaters, marking the second such ordeal in just a few weeks.

The recent deluge, triggered by heavy rains after storm Henk's impact in January, has left both homes and businesses in distress.

Peter Graham, the landlord of the George Inn posted a video on Facebook of him and his family wading through the pub.

He is among those advocating for governmental intervention, saying there is an urgent need for solutions to prevent future flooding incidents.

Among those who helped with the clear-up was Tessa Munt, the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Wells.

Councillor Claire Sully said: "We need action on this now is the main message here. We need emergency flooding prevention funding from Central Government now, for Croscombe, Shepton and the surrounding areas.

"Please write to your MP and ask him to ensure that Somerset Council and the Environment Agency get the funding it needs to do this vital flood defences and prevention work."

A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said: "Regarding Croscombe, we issued flood warnings in advance of the flooding and have had operatives out before and since the flooding to ensure trash screens and culverts were clear of debris.

"River levels in the area peaked early on Sunday morning with levels now dropping.

"We understand how devastating flooding is and are absolutely committed to protecting people from flooding and reducing its impact."
