In a recent roundup of the UK's snug pubs, two Wells establishments, The Fountain Inn and The Sheppey, have been named among the cosiest in the South West, according to a survey focusing on pub-goers' reviews.

This research, conducted by South Western Railway, placed The Fountain Inn and The Sheppey in sixth and seventh place respectively in the regional rankings, highlighting the warm and inviting atmosphere that patrons can expect when visiting these local pubs.

A spokesperson for South Western Railway said: "Pubs are one of Britain's oldest and most popular institutions, with England alone hosting an impressive 39,000 pubs.

"As Brits, we all love to find comfort in a warm English pub during the winter months.

"The research analysed the sentiment of reviews from some of the cosiest establishments in the UK and scored each out of 100.

"The final cosiness score was calculated by analysing and compiling review sentiment across four metrics- atmosphere (ambience rating), busyness (quietness rating), cosiness (comfort rating) and Sunday dinners."

While The Ring O'Bells in Compton Martin grabbed a spot as the third cosiest pub nationwide, it was The Fountain and The Sheppey that caught local attention, showcasing Wells' contribution to the South West's top cosy spots.

The South West's cosiest pub list was led by The Swan in Cheltenham, with others like The Haunch of Venison in Salisbury and The Warren House Inn in Devon also making the cut.
