Which, admittedly, sounds like the sort of role where you need to know what a "fiduciary duty" is before breakfast. Still, for someone with governance or legal admin experience, it's a serious senior role with proper responsibility — supporting governors, handling compliance, overseeing safeguarding processes and generally making sure the school machinery doesn't wobble off into a hedge. It's full-time, year-round, Monday to Friday, and applications close on 24 May.

Meanwhile, if your ideal office has considerably more diesel and reversing beepers, Sydenhams in Glastonbury wants an HGV Class 1 Driver. The South West's builders' merchants don't run themselves, after all. It's a permanent 45-hour role with a long-established family company celebrating its 150th anniversary this year, which is older than most of the potholes on the A361.

Over in Street, Brookside Academy is looking for an EYFS Teacher to join from September. The salary ranges from £32,916 to £45,352 depending on experience, and they're after someone who can create the sort of magical early years environment involving outdoor learning, curiosity and approximately 400 tiny shoes in the wrong cubby. It's a full-time permanent role with plenty of staff benefits and a genuinely supportive sounding setup. Applications close on 1 June.

Wells has gone unexpectedly lucrative this week, starting with Vision Express recruiting an Optometrist on a salary up to £79,000 plus car allowance, bonuses and enough eyewear perks to make your Specsavers loyalty card sweat. Flexible hours are on offer too, which might appeal if you'd quite like a professional career that still allows occasional daylight.

They're looking for someone confident with patients and modern eye care tech — OCT scanners and automated phoropters included, if that means anything to you and not just like a Star Wars side character. Also in Wells, a long-established Somerset law firm is hiring a Residential Conveyancer with salaries up to £60,000 and hybrid working available. It's one for solicitors, legal executives or experienced conveyancers who enjoy the thrilling world of chains collapsing at 4.57pm on a Friday. The firm sounds refreshingly sensible — supportive culture, flexible working, Christmas closure and actual long-term progression rather than vague promises about "journeys".

Retail folk with stamina and a tolerance for slightly chaotic stockrooms might fancy the Assistant Manager role in Shepton Mallet. The advert leans heavily on "rapidly expanding" and "market leader", which usually translates to "you'll be busy", but the £35,000 salary isn't shabby if you thrive on fast-paced retail life and know your way around a rota.

For something more hands-on, there's a Forklift Driver role in Shepton Mallet paying £12.73 an hour rising to £15 after 12 weeks. It's temp-to-perm through Pure Staff with a large distribution company, so ideal if you've got the licence and fancy something steady without spending your days trapped in Teams meetings discussing "bandwidth".

Also in the transport world, Shepton Mallet is looking for LGV Class 2 Waste and Recycling Drivers on £20 an hour. It's Monday to Friday, immediate start, and yes — somebody has to deal with the nation's recycling habits after bank holiday weekends. Stable work though, and no shortage of stories for the pub afterwards.

Then there's possibly the most Somerset job imaginable this week: Senior Systems Lead at The Newt near Castle Cary. One minute you're discussing ERP architecture, the next you're apparently surrounded by orchards and luxury spa facilities. The role pays up to £85,000 and involves leading major systems projects across warehouse management, Sage ERP, reporting and wholesale platforms. In short: if you can tame sprawling business systems while remaining calm in a room full of stakeholders, this could be your moment. Also, the staff perks list is longer than a brunch queue in Bruton.

And finally, for the organised among us, there's a Senior Administrator role in Shepton Mallet paying £30,000 with a long-running utilities reinstatement company. It's office-based, Monday to Friday, with plenty of dashboard checking, job logging and phone wrangling involved. The sort of role where being able to find the right spreadsheet quickly becomes a genuine superpower.
