Youngsters from Wells Stepping Stones Pre-School enjoyed a special visit from children's author Rebecca Gryspeerdt at the Bishop's Palace recently.

Rebecca is the author of Helpful Nell, an illustrated story set in the Bishop's Palace gardens featuring swans, cygnets and the Town Cryer.

The children also met Cuddly Rabbit, one of the main characters from the story, during the storytelling sessions at the Palace.

Ten storytelling sessions for local primary schools and nurseries have been arranged at the Bishop's Palace by Wells Festival of Literature.

Festival organisers said profits from the event help to fund year-round literacy projects in local schools.
