Conservative Party election leaflet confuses Wells and Wales

Confusing Wells and Wales may happen if you are trying to overhear someone in a crowded place.
But to mix the two up when you're mailing out thousands of election leaflets is rather more embarrassing.
The Conservative Party has sent out leaflets to Somerset residents ahead of the general election on December 12 – leaflets which promise more money for Welsh schools and the Welsh NHS.
The party said this was caused by "a printing error by an external supplier".
The Local Democracy Reporting Service was provided with two separate examples of the leaflet in question – one delivered in the Yeovil Constituency, and another delivered to Burnham-on-Sea, part of the Wells Constituency.
Both leaflets take the form of four pages, with two being devoted to the Tory candidates standing in each area – Marcus Fysh and James Heappey respectively.
But the other two pages consist of pledges mainly applicable to Wales, with the party promising "£1.2bn extra for the Welsh NHS", "nearly £800M of extra innovation money" for Wales and £1.24bn to "make more funding available for every school in Wales".
The leaflet makes general reference to the party's plans for 20,000 extra police officers and Boris Johnson's Brexit deal – but otherwise there is no specific mention of Somerset or the issues affecting the county.
The Liberal Democrats – who are seen as the Tories' main challengers in both seats – have criticised the leaflet, saying it misleads the public on the future of the NHS.
A spokesman said: "No doubt many constituents will be rather confused to have this Wales-centric Tory mailer through their doors.
"In case Conservative HQ is in any doubt, we are definitely not in Wales.
"Local people don't want to hear about what the Tories are promising for Welsh schools or the Welsh NHS – they want to know, given the leaked documents which have emerged, why the Tories are planning on selling off the NHS in a US trade deal, and why they plan on agreeing deals with big pharma to make NHS drugs more expensive.
"The Tories can not be trusted with our NHS, the public do not want to buy health insurance or have a privatised NHS.
"The only way to stop this is to ensure that the Tories do not receive a majority on December 12, and in the Yeovil constituency the Lib Dems are the only party that can defeat them."
The Conservatives said the error affected "a small number of constituencies" and said it was due to a problem with their supplier.
A spokesman said: "This was a printing error by an external supplier, who have written to us to apologise.
"It meant voters in a small number of constituencies across the country received a leaflet about our increased funding for the NHS in Wales, rather than our increased funding of £33.9bn in England.
"If people would like to know about our support for public services like the NHS they should visit www.conservatives.com."
