Nearly 400 Christmas cards made by pupils and staff at Wells Cathedral School have been delivered to care home residents across the city, spreading festive cheer to those in need.

The cards also reached local organisations, including the mental health charity Heads Up, the Lawrence Centre, which provides day opportunities for older people, and the Connect Centre, which supports homeless individuals.

Headmaster Alastair Tighe said: "Pupils and staff have enjoyed making and writing Christmas cards which we hope will spread a little festive cheer for the residents of our local care homes as well as for any others in the Wells area who may find this time of year especially challenging."

He added: "The celebration of Christmas encourages all of us to think about others, in a particular way, and we hope that these cards from Wells Cathedral School are one way of doing just that."

The cards were collected from the school by Philip Welch, representing Wells Dementia Action Alliance, to be distributed to the local community.
