Wells is getting ready to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III with a fun-filled day of activities and entertainment on May 7.

While the coronation will take place on May 6 at Westminster Abbey in London, Wells will have its own festivities the following day, organised by the Wells City Council in partnership with Wells Cathedral.

Visitors can expect a variety of fun activities and attractions for all ages, including live music performances from a range of talented local bands such as the Wells Cathedral Song Squad, Mojo Working, Wells City Band, Blue School Folk Group, and Wells Cathedral School Jazz Combo.

There will also be family games, craft activities, and food and drink stalls. The event will officially kick off at noon on Cathedral Green with a grand opening ceremony by the Mayor of Wells, Councillor Stewart Cursley.

As part of the coronation celebrations, a special exhibition will also take place in the cloisters of Wells Cathedral for ten days, including the day of the coronation itself.

The exhibition will feature a wide range of artworks in different media, such as paintings, mosaics, photography, pottery, sculpture, and embroidery. Visitors can enjoy live music performances from the Wells Cathedral School jazz band and the Blue School's folk orchestra while viewing the artworks.

Access to the exhibition will be from 7 am to 6 pm, and visitors can also enjoy the other festivities on the Wells Cathedral Green on the same day from 10 am to 6 pm. Mayor Cllr Cursley invites everyone to come along, bring a picnic, and join in the fun.
