Wells care home residents enjoy taste of Italy
By Ruth Cooke 8th Jul 2026
Residents at Crandon Springs Care Home in Wells enjoyed a taste of Italy after choosing Italian cuisine for the home's recent themed dining experience.
As part of the home's commitment to providing both excellent nutrition and meaningful life enrichment, residents were invited to vote for the country's cuisine they would like to experience. Italy proved the clear favourite, with the dining room transformed using Italian table flags and traditional background music to create an authentic atmosphere.
Head Chef Simon and his team prepared a delicious Italian-inspired menu featuring tomato and mozzarella salad or minestrone soup to start, followed by a choice of beef lasagne, chicken diablo or vegetarian puttanesca. Dessert was a classic tiramisu, accompanied by Italian biscuits, while residents could also enjoy a choice of wines with their meal.
Adding to the experience, Simon and his team greeted residents with a cheerful "Buon appetito!" as they served lunch.
The themed lunch was a great success, with residents enjoying both the food and the opportunity to experience Italian culture. The occasion was especially meaningful for resident Magda, who is originally from Italy and was delighted to see the flavours and traditions of her home country celebrated.
Crandon Springs Care Home Manager, Darius Ivana, said: "Sharing a meal is one of life's great pleasures, and themed dining experiences like this bring so much more than delicious food. They encourage conversation, spark memories, and allow us to celebrate different cultures. By involving residents in choosing the theme, we're able to create experiences that are personal, engaging and something everyone can look forward to."
