The Bishop of Bath and Wells was deeply impressed when he came to SOUP! in January 2023.

In fact Bishop Michael was so enthusiastic about how SOUP! is helping charities and local projects spread their word and raise much needed funds that he asked if it could take place in the Cathedral.

"So we are delighted to announce that Saturday January 11, 2025 will see his request come to fruition – SOUP! will take place in the Cathedral and the Bishop will be present," said Ross Young who organises Wells SOUP!, an initiative by Wells Independents.

The four presenters will be:

·      Music for Wellbeing, which was formerly Singing for the Brain. They say: "We provide a warm and friendly space to bring together people living with dementia as well as young adults with learning disabilities."

·      Owl Enlightenment, who take owls to people's homes in the same way that dogs are sometimes used. The companionship is good for mental health, well-being, combating loneliness, and brightening people's lives.

·      Dance 4 Parkinson's is run by individuals living with Parkinson's and other neurological conditions. They say: "Over the last three years dance has brought us together to keep active, have fun, and support each other."

·      Wells Youth Club: "We encourage young people to be good neighbours and active members of their community. YMCA Youth Clubs provide safe spaces where every voice is heard and valued."

These four will bring the total of good causes helped by Wells Independents' SOUP! so far to 98.

This SOUP! is sponsored by the Wells Chamber of Commerce, whose chair Louis Agabani said: "We strive to support the local community and through SOUP! we are able to extend our reach much further."

The two choices of soup will be provided by Fresh & Good, the bread rolls given by Burns the Bread, and the flowers on the table by Karen Young. The selection of drinks available from the donation bar are being donated by Mr Agabani.

"Please come along to the Cathedral on Saturday January 11 to support these four good causes. Tickets on the door are £5," said Ross. "The seating will be for 120 maximum so it's first come-first served.

"The start time is 1pm but we strongly advise arriving by 12.40pm."
