The long-running roadworks from Bristol Water on the A39 in Coxley are due to resume this week as they have been deemed as "essential".

The works paused during the early days of the lockdown but restarted over the last week and the temporary traffic lights outside the junction of Cartwright Close have now been removed.

However, the company has confirmed that the works are scheduled to begin again with temporary traffic lights from Good Friday (April 10) at the junction with Burcott Lane.

The latest set of temporary traffic lights are to enable Bristol Water to make connections to services after installing the new water main, and they are scheduled to remain in place until April 27.

A spokesperson for Bristol Water said: "In the coming weeks, we'll be moving towards the A39 Burcott Lane junction and Littlewell on the A39.

"The current work that we're doing at Coxley has been deemed essential and is therefore continuing to progress.

"We have halted all planned interruptions to water supplies as we understand at this time of social distancing, more people are at home, and so a constant water supply is imperative.

"In terms of measures for essential workers, who are still out ensuring that 1.2 million of us stay in supply, there are lots of new policies we've introduced to help protect them.

"This includes increasing of lone working, following two-metre guidance wherever possible, increased hand sanitiser and PPE, to name a few."
