Tucked away in the car park of a Wells pub, sits a humble but extraordinary burger van, one that has managed to captivate both the local and national culinary scene.

Fattso, created by local lads Joe Watson, Charlie Morris-Adams, and Hamish McDonald, is the unassuming but star-studded joint you simply must visit.

Why? The compelling narrative of Fattso begins with the national recognition it has received. Chef and co-owner, Hamish McDonald's "Royale with Cheese" claimed third place at the prestigious National Burger Awards 2023. An honour of this calibre isn't handed out lightly and stands testament to the exceptional quality and mouth-watering flavours that Fattso consistently delivers.

But it's not just the award-winning burgers that set Fattso apart.

The team has brought the distinctive 'smash burger' style to the heart of Wells. This style, which has its roots in the United States, involves cooking the meat on a flat-top grill at high temperatures. The result is a crispy exterior and a juicy interior, making for a texturally satisfying bite.

Each burger is accompanied by a medley of unique sauces and toppings that offer a different experience with each visit to further enhance the flavour.

Yet, it's not only about the food at Fattso. A visit to the burger van is an experience of community and connection. Born out of the desire to deliver quality food to their local community during a challenging time, the passion and commitment of the Fattso team is palpable. Watson, Morris-Adams, and McDonald are not just three entrepreneurs; they are members of the Wells community, sharing their culinary prowess with their neighbours and visitors.

Adding to the charm of Fattso is its unusual location. Nestled in the car park adjacent to the Cheddar Valley Inn on Tucker Street, the setting adds an offbeat allure to the entire Fattso experience. There's a distinct joy in picking up an award-winning burger from a van, savouring it in the open air, or enjoying it in the cosy setting of the Inn.

You can't talk about Fattso without acknowledging the expertise behind its success. McDonald, formerly the head chef at the highly regarded Ox restaurant in Bristol, brings a wealth of culinary knowledge to the table. The quality of every burger, from the perfectly cooked meat to the carefully selected sauces and toppings, is a testament to his skills.

Fattso is not just a burger van. It's a testament to what can be achieved with a combination of passion, expertise, and commitment to quality

Described as a 'small company with a big heart' For burger enthusiasts and food lovers alike, a visit to Fattso is an absolute must.
