Ford and Stanley are looking for Mechanical Fitters or Mechanical Technicians who would like the opportunity to become skilled locomotive maintainers for one of the UK s leading rail freight operator and maintainers.

You will have a great opportunity to build your skill set working on safety critical rail vehicles, carrying out maintenance and repairs to a large fleet of vehicles such as locomotive and wagons.

To succeed in this role, you will have an automotive background such as HGV or PSV. Alternatively, perhaps you worked as a Master Technician maybe on light vehicles or light goods vehicles or Cars? Maybe you worked on aircraft or within the aerospace industry on maintenance hangars and looking to take a step into something different? Or maybe you ex forces or in the forces looking to join civilian life, then this could be the opportunity you have been looking for!

Role and Responsibilities

  • Carry out general mechanical maintenance and repairs to all rolling stock rail vehicles on a variety of components such as air braking, hydraulic systems & diesel engines.
  • Fault diagnosis and rectification on mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Working to written maintenance instructions (VMI) to complete examinations and inspections of the trains you will be working with.
  • Working to engineering drawings and diagrams.

The Candidate

You will be a skilled mechanical technician with experience of working on large vehicles such as heavy plant, HGV s, coaches, buses or military vehicles including aircrafts.

  • You will be comfortable with maintenance procedures of mechanical components such as brakes, suspension, and wheelsets.
  • You will understand electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and diesel engine maintenance principles.
  • As part of the above there will be full training on the systems and procedures that you will be required to carry out.
  • You will understand the use of hand tools such as torque wrenches and be physically fit enough to handle them effectively.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience in maintenance and fault finding within a transport/ plant related engineering environment
  • Must have a Level 3 qualification, or equivalent, in an engineering / mechanical / electrical discipline.
  • Ability to navigate engineering drawings, blueprints, and diagrams, written technical instructions and manuals and follow processes.
  • Full UK driving licence or locality to the depot is essential.

Shift Pattern

  • Shifts are across a 3-shift pattern including nights and weekends.

Salary £44,000 + overtime - £50,000+ OTE

You will have the opportunity to learn who to drive and shunt trains an extra £1,000 per annum.

Up to 6 training modules each worth an extra £1,500 per annum giving you the potential earnings of £50,000k plus

There is also an opportunity to carry out training modules to increase your salary, these include Shunter training and engineering modules from axle and bearings, electrical fault finding & Mentoring.
