Wells City have been knocked out of the FA Vase after losing 2-1 to Newton Abbot Spurs.
Wells dominated for long periods of the game and scored a late goal through Harry Foster, but it will be the side from Devon who progress to the next round.
The first chance for Wells came after five minutes when a Foster cross was met on the volley by Dale Hunt but his effort was straight at the keeper.
After 16 minutes, some good link up play between Foster, Alex Camm and Brett Cotterill saw Cotterill poke the ball just wide of goal.
On 24 minutes, a good ball in from the Newton Abbot winger was met firmly by the head of the number 9 but Josh Bond was in the right place to make an assured save.
Bond was in action again a minute later with an incredible save low to his right when the Newton number 9 unleashed a fierce volley through a number of players.
On the half hour mark, a Charlie Crook throw in was neatly chested down by Hunt but Camm smashed the ball over the bar.
On 33 minutes, a great counter attack by Craig Herrod allowed Foster to go one on one with the keeper and his low shot is saved when a square ball to Camm would have led to an open goal and an easy finish.
After 36 minutes, a brilliant 25-yard effort from Cotterill was matched with a brilliant save from the Newton keeper.
Wells kept the pressure on and after 40 minutes a corner into the Newton box was flicked on by Hunt to Foster and his volley from the edge of the box was again well saved.
On 42 minutes, a quick break by Newton saw their number 10 go one on one with Bond and he then produced a great save to deny Newton.
Newton's first goal came deep into first half added time when the last kick of the half saw a misplaced cross elude everyone and somehow find its way into the top corner of the Wells goal to give Newton a very fortunate 1-0 lead.
Wells started the second half strongly and in the 47th minute a Herrod corner was met by Ben Amghar at the back post but his header went wide.
A minute later, an absolute rocket from Hunt from 30 yards was somehow tipped wide by the Newton keeper and from the resulting corner Ross Padfield managed to lose his man but his volley was cleared off the line.
On the hour mark, another quick counter attack saw the Newton number 10 go one on one with Bond again and again Bond did brilliantly do deny him.
Wells piled on the pressure and after 65 minutes a Kieran Davis piledriver from 25 yards was deflected just over the bar, and the resulting corner was met with a powerful Hunt header but again Newton survived as the ball was again cleared off the line.
On 67 minutes, another fizzing effort from Cotterill from 25 yards whistled just wide of the post.
Completely against the run of play, on 68 minutes a long clearance from the Newton 18-yard box caught the Wells defence napping and the Newton number 10 cut on to his left foot and calmly slotted the ball into the bottom left corner.
With time running out, a delightful through-ball from Herrod released Ryan Stiles but the Newton keeper did well to thwart him with his feet.
Wells pulled a goal back in the last minute when a Steve Sokol ball into the box was volleyed into the ground and over the keeper by Foster.
The last five minutes of added time saw a barrage of Wells attacks but for all their efforts, Newton dug deep and held out to progress in the FA Vase.
Wells can feel a little hard done by not to at least take the game to extra time or even win it with all their dominance and chances but as it always is in football, it's the scoreline that matters and Newton took their chances and defended resolutely.
Wells return to league action next week when they travel to unbeaten Wincanton in what should be another big test.
