Wells City were held to a 1-1 draw against Welton Rovers at the weekend, which was disappointing given the amount of chances they created.

The first chance came on 10 minutes when a defence-splitting throughball by Dale Hunt released Harvey Hadrill who cuts the ball back to Harry Foster but his shot was brilliantly saved.

On 18 minutes another Hunt throughball released Craig Herrod who cut inside but his shot was well blocked and deflected wide.

After 25 minutes there was a Welton free kick that the number 3 fired well over from 30 yards.

A minute later, a long throw released Welton's number 9 who brought a great save out of Josh Bond.

On 28 minutes and Welton's number 9 again had an effort but this time from a 30 yard free kick that Bond did well to collect as it bounced awkwardly in front of him.

Soon afterwards, a wicked ball into the box from Mark Randall saw Hunt challenge with the keeper and as the ball dropped down to Hunt he sliced his effort just wide of the top corner when he should have done better.

After 37 minutes Welton sliced Wells apart and the number 4, through one on one, unleashed a great strike but that was surpassed by another great Bond save, leaving the game goal-less at half time.

Welton took the lead just after the restart when a ball split Wells open and with too much time the number 9 rifled a half volley across Bond and into the far corner to give Welton the lead.

On 48 minutes a lofted ball by Herrod nearly caught the keeper out but he managed to recover and thwart Hadrill on the follow up.

After 52 minutes a rapid counter attack saw Foster cut inside the full back before squaring the ball to Hunt, he then fed the overlapping Steve Sokol but he could only slice wide.

A minute later and a great deep ball by Hunt was met on the full by Foster but his effort was well blocked.

Wells equalised through a penalty on 55 minutes. Hadrill won the penalty after a clumsy challenge and Foster converted, firing the ball into the bottom left corner.

On 62 minutes quality play by Hadrill slipped Sokol through and he tried to square it rather than shoot when clean through, and the keeper smothered it.

After 72 minutes a clinical counter attack from Wells saw the ball fall to Hadrill but he fired just wide from a tight angle.

A Herrod corner on 78 minutes was powerfully met by Jack Spence but he headed wide.

With just four minutes left, continued Wells pressure saw chance after chance but no goal as the final attempt from Foster just missed the bottom right corner, making the final score 1-1.

Wells will need to learn to be more clinical in front of goal and will need to stop conceding soft goals of they are going to turn their season around and put some pressure on the teams above.

This Saturday they travel to Bristol Telephones for a 3pm kick off.
