In an impressive showcase of skill and determination, the Shepton Mallet Gymnastics Club made a mark at the South-West Schools Championships in Tumbling, held in Devon.

The club, represented by 14 tumblers aged between 8 to 18 years, not only met but exceeded their personal goals, gaining invaluable experience at this regional competition.

Highlighting the event was Alfie McCulloch from Wells Blue School, who for the second consecutive year, clinched the title of South-West Tumbling Schools Champion. With one of the highest scores of the day, Alfie's exceptional performance was duly rewarded with a well-deserved gold medal.

Grace Whitcombe, representing Chew Valley School, also made headlines by securing the South-West runner-up champion title. In her debut at the SW schools competition, Grace's remarkable display earned her a silver medal, setting a high standard for future competitions.

The club's primary school boys continued the winning momentum, securing the top three positions in their category. Luke Steele from Stoberry Park School emerged as the South-West Tumbling Champion, his dedication to the sport earning him a gold medal. Close on his heels was Wesley Talbot from Evercreech C of E Primary School, who retained his silver medal position for the second year running. Jack Rowe from Ditcheat Primary School rounded off the podium with a bronze medal, showcasing the depth of talent within the club.

Olivia White from Bruton Primary School completed the competition with the biggest smile of the day, her three strong tumbles winning her a silver medal and admiration from all present.

The club expressed immense pride in all its gymnasts, who have demonstrated hard work and commitment to reach this level of competition. Special congratulations go out to Alfie McCulloch, Grace Whitcombe, Luke Steele, Wesley Talbot, and Olivia White, who have qualified to represent the Shepton Mallet Gymnastics Club at the National School Finals in Stoke-on-Trent next month.
