An early penalty was the difference as Wells City lost 1-0 to Calne Town at the weekend, and both sides had a player sent off.
The only goal of the game was scored on eight minutes when some soft defending was exploited by a long ball forward that was flicked on by Windsor and as Chevallou was about to pull the trigger, Mark Randall fouled him, giving a penalty away. The penalty was duly dispatched and Calne took the lead.
After 10 minutes a fierce shot from Craig Herrod was saved well by Thompson.
On 15 minutes, Matt Hudson was sent off for Calne for a dangerous high tackle on Charlie Crook.
There was a breakaway chance after 20 minutes as good individual work from Windsor forced a good save by Harley Wilkinson.
After a lot of good pressure from Wells, a Herrod cross on 25 minutes found Crook but his shot went wide.
On 35 minutes there was a great chance for Alex Camm but he poked his shot wide from 10 yards.
Just before half time, a corner for Wells saw a Jack Spence header well saved before Camm hit the bar on the rebound and then Harvey Hadrill's follow up was cleared off the line.
Into the second half, and on 53 minutes good link up play between Tom Hill and Dale Hunt saw the latter find Herrod, but his snapshot across goal evaded everyone and just missed the far bottom corner.
After 56 minutes, a great ball from Hill found Hunt but his header from 12 yards was saved by Thompson.
On 70 minutes a 35-yard rocket from Spence left Thompson standing but his effort smashed the bar and Calne breathed a sigh of relief.
After relentless Wells attacks the last bit of action on 88 minutes saw pinball in the box and as the ball fell to Herrod, his half volley from 10 yards was somehow blocked on the line and hooked clear.
Then, in the last minute, Randall was sent off for a second yellow card. Final score Wells 0-1 Calne Town.
This was a massive win for Calne who were fortunate to come away with three points given they were a man down for all of 70 minutes and the sustained Wells pressure. However, possession doesn't win you games and credit to the 10 men for holding on.
Wells travel to Warminster on Saturday (February 1) for a 3pm kick off.
