Mendip District Council has begun transfer talks with Wells City Council to hand back the Bishop's Barn and Recreation Ground facilities.
Exploratory discussions are now underway between the two parties, with Mendip offering Wells City Council a three-year lease for the day-to-day management of the site. Mendip hopes an agreement can be completed this spring.

From 7pm on Thursday February 6, mayor John Osman will be co-chairing a public meeting on the future of mental health provision at the St Andrew's Ward in Wells.
The event will include a presentation, breaking into focus groups and then a general question and answer session.
It seems to me that everything that thousands of eminent, well-respected scientists are telling us, that the way we have lived our lives in this beautiful and privileged part of the world, is no longer going to revolve around what are essentially trivial issues.
And in saying that I don't mean to denigrate, in any way, previous hard work and good intentions.

When you bring business people together in the spirit of working together, far more can be achieved than working in isolation.
So was the case at the first Wells Big Business Breakfast when 60 entrepreneurs and business owners met at the Swan Hotel in the city in January to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

A man is in custody after a driver failed to stop for police officers in Wells and crashed in Glastonbury.
Officers patrolling in a marked car attempted to stop a Mini in Glastonbury Road, Wells, just before 10.30pm yesterday (Sunday February 2).

A trio of fundraising events around Wells over the festive period helped raises hundreds of pounds for the mental health charity Heads Up.
The charity, which is based in South Horrington, has revealed the amounts raised, and would like to thank the organisations involved for their help.
