Mendip District Council has approved a ban on vaping, electronic cigarettes and other such devices in its taxis, following a vote by its licensing board on Wednesday evening (February 12).

Hundreds of pounds have been raised by businesses and organisations in the Wells area for the mental health and wellbeing charity Heads Up.
The South Horrington-based charity wishes to thank all of those who contributed money to the fundraising efforts of the organisations, which saw almost £800 being donated.

After a handful of roadwork-free weeks, motorists in Coxley will see temporary traffic lights return on the A39 through the village this week.
This time it is the turn of Wessex Water and Truespeed to work under the lights, with various sets being in place at different times over the week.
One person had to be cut free following a four-vehicle crash in Binegar last night (February 14).
Just after 7pm, two fire engines from Shepton Mallet and a heavy rescue tender from Glastonbury, were all sent to a report of a crash in the Bennetts Lane/Whitnell Corner area with persons still trapped.

Students from Wells Blue School will be among the speakers at a Climate Emergency Strategy drop-in session being held tomorrow (Saturday February 15).
The session runs from 10am and 4pm at Mendip District Council, Cannard's Grave Road, Shepton Mallet BA4 5BT.
The Wells Market that was due to take place tomorrow (February 15) has been cancelled due to Storm Dennis.
With the anticipated adverse weather conditions, the market organisers have chosen to cancel the market for health and safety, and insurance reasons.
