The work from Truespeed to connect Wells to its ultrafast broadband is scheduled to continue apace next week, with three sets of temporary traffic lights planned across the city.

On Monday (August 17) there are due to be temporary traffic lights on the B3139 Wookey Road for the company to rectify and repair remedial works.

Essential improvements can be made at Wells Blue School following an announcement by the government that it is to receive more than £540,000.

The Department for Education (DfE) announced on August 5 that funding had been set aside for a total of 580 building projects across schools in England – including academies, sixth form colleges and voluntary aided schools.

Wells Cathedral School

Despite it being a very different A-level results day, pupils at Wells Cathedral School had much to celebrate today (August 13).

The overall pass rate was 99.6 per cent, the highest pass rate at the school in 15 years. Almost two-thirds achieved grades A* to B, 40 per cent achieved grades A* to A (compared to a national average figure of 27.9 per cent) and 16 per cent gained the top A* grade.

There was no big A-level results day celebration this year due to the coronavirus crisis

Amidst the exceptional situation that this year has created, at the Blue School in Wells staff are very proud of the students for the results they have received today (August 13) in their A-levels and BTECs.

The vast majority of the students have achieved their first choice university place or are able to embark upon their chosen career path.
