Plans to build more than 3,600 homes across Somerset could be given the go-ahead over the coming months - including a development of 90 homes in Wells.

Somerset's four district councils – Mendip, Sedgemoor, Somerset West and Taunton, and South Somerset – handle thousands of planning applications every year, covering everything from major housing developments to extensions and conservatories.

The total amount discounted in the constituency adds up to £715,000

Wells MP James Heappey says he is pleased with the Government's Eat Out to Help Out scheme, with the Wells Constituency enjoying the second highest amount of discounted meals in Somerset.

More than 140,000 meals were discounted as a result of the scheme in the Wells constituency, with customers able to enjoy 50 per cent off food and soft drinks, when eating in, throughout August every Monday to Wednesday.

The Post Office has confirmed to Wells Nub News that it still plans to have a branch in the city centre but there is no confirmed opening date at the moment.

A proposed move to the new Peacocks store in Wells High Street was delayed to the coronavirus crisis, but the Post Office has now reaffirmed its commitment to having a city centre branch following the closure of the Market Place site.

Avon and Somerset Police have announced that construction will be commencing on the new police station at Burcott Road, Wells, on Monday (September 14).

The new Wells Police Station will be home to the local neighbourhood policing team and will be co-located with Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service (DFSRS) at their site on Burcott Road, alongside South West Ambulance Service Foundation Trust (SWAST).
