Somerset residents are being urged to prepare for a day of heavy rainfall as the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning effective from 8am until 11.59pm today.

Forecasters predict that the intense downpours could lead to significant travel disruptions and the possibility of flooding across the region.

The warning encompasses most parts of the West Country, with the heaviest rain expected to batter Somerset from around midday.

According to the Devon-based Met Office, there is a 90 percent chance of heavy rainfall from 12pm to 7pm, decreasing slightly to an 80 percent likelihood from 7pm until the late evening.

Local authorities are cautioning that the heavy rain may cause spray and flooding on roads, likely resulting in longer journey times.

Additionally, bus and train services may face delays, impacting daily commutes and travel plans.

The Met Office has also warned of potential flooding of homes and businesses in some areas.

Residents are advised to stay updated on the latest weather forecasts and be prepared for changes to travel routes or delays.
