Coronavirus is bringing out the best of Wells.

Daily life is changing dramatically and volunteers are springing up across the city to offer help to those in need.

But there is little co-ordination and no central hub providing information and advice for residents.

So a new group of community organisations has formed to co-ordinate, help and support the local response to the pandemic.

Called Wells Coronavirus Network, it has set up a phone helpline - 01749 467079 - open 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday but hopefully longer shortly. You can also pass news or seek advice by email at [email protected].

If you want to write a note or letter the postal address is Wells Coronavirus Network, Connect Centre, Portway, Wells BA5 2BE, where it will be collected daily.

If you would like to volunteer, you can go to this weblink.

This growing group is pooling resources and already includes the Connect Centre, Mendip Health Connections, Wells and District Neighbourhood Watch, Sustainable Wells, Wells Community Notice Board Facebook page, Burcott Road Residents Association and Project Factory CIC.

"In this national emergency we need to build a safe, sustainable and co-ordinated structure so we can all help each other," said Wells resident Sue Jones, who volunteers at the Connect Centre.

"We can come through this crisis a stronger and better community."
