Wookey Hole to shine for Air Ambulance Week 2025

Wookey Hole will light up in yellow and green on Monday 8 September in support of Air Ambulance Week 2025, highlighting the life-saving work of air ambulance services across the UK.
The event, which runs from 8 to 14 September, raises awareness and vital funds for 21 air ambulance charities, all of which rely solely on public donations to operate. Each mission costs around £3,500 to carry out.
Chris Goodchild, general manager at Wookey Hole, said: "At Wookey Hole, we are proud to support Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance Week by lighting up our Mill and caves in yellow and green, symbolising the life-saving work they do across our region.
"With no government funding, their service relies entirely on public support, and we are honoured to help shine a light on their vital role in our community."
Tracy Bartram, communications manager at Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, said: "With each mission costing around £3,500, raising awareness is just as important as raising funds, because people can only support us if they understand more about our work and the difference that the donations make."
Wookey Hole, located in the Mendip Hills near Wells, is one of six landmarks across the South West taking part in this year's illumination effort. The site is known for its dramatic caves and deep ties to local folklore, making it a fitting location to spotlight the air ambulance's emergency service.
Other Somerset landmarks taking part include Glastonbury Tor and St James Church in Yeovil.
