Planned gas works on Wookey Hole Road in Wells have been delayed, with the full road closure now set to begin on Sunday 8 September.

The 207-metre stretch, running from the junction with Glencot Road to Woolcombe Road, will be shut around the clock for 12 days while Wales & West Utilities carries out gas main upgrades.

The works were originally expected to start this week, but Somerset Council has confirmed a delay to the schedule. The road will now close from 8 to 19 September 2025.

The traffic order allowing the closure was put in place on 24 July 2025 and remains valid for 18 months.
