Film crews have been spotted shooting a TV series in Wookey, near Wells, with production equipment and road closures in place during a two-day shoot last week.

The filming used several interior and exterior locations in the village, with support from Somerset Council's registered film office, Screen Somerset.

The production has not been officially named, with details being kept under wraps by those involved. It is understood locally to be linked to Am I being unreasonable?, the BBC comedy-thriller starring Daisy May Cooper.

Wookey, was supported during the filming by what Screen Somerset described as a "film-friendly" parish council. Residents also welcomed the crew and Screen Somerset, with the shoot giving the village an unusual talking point.

Anna Richards, whose mother's home was used for exterior filming, said: "Wookey is a lovely village but it's pretty quiet and this has been really exciting and given everyone something to talk about for weeks on end now. I think the village has really enjoyed it.

"The crew have been very helpful and the location manager was very professional and friendly and made the whole process really smooth.

"It's been really exciting and we can't wait to see our drive on TV."

The filming involved a large amount of professional equipment, and roads in the Wookey area were closed while work took place. Screen Somerset, which supports and promotes film and television production across the county, said shoots can bring economic benefits to local areas.

The Mendip area has seen a string of major productions filmed locally in recent years, including Hot Fuzz, Poldark, Wolf Hall, The Spanish princess and Danny Boyle's 28 years later. Wells Cathedral was also recently used for a scene in the Masters of the universe film, with Idris Elba filmed in an action sequence.

According to Screen Somerset, film and television production contributed an estimated £6.6 million to Somerset's economy last year.
