Wendy Ray, former Wells Rotary Club president, honoured with Somerset Council Chair's Award for Service to the Community

In a fitting tribute to her years of community service, former Wells Rotary Club president Wendy Ray has been honoured with a Somerset Council Chair's Award for Service to the Community.

Nominated by Councillor Tanys Pullin, the Mayor of Wells, Wendy has been a pillar in the local community. "Wendy has worked tirelessly for many years bringing voluntary groups together, including helping displaced Ukrainian families, organising Jubilee and Coronation celebrations and arranging art exhibitions," said Councillor Pullin.

Not one to rest on her laurels, Wendy also runs her own charity in Africa. "I enjoy volunteering as a Cathedral Steward and my own charity, which provides education to orphaned and vulnerable children in Zambia," Wendy said in response to her award. She expressed her joy and honour, saying, "Bringing the Community of Wells together to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee and King Charles III's coronation were two wonderful, memorable occasions which included the Art in Cathedral Cloisters Exhibition. This award was a wonderful surprise and a great honour."

Councillor Best, who also commented on the ceremony, added, "It is so rewarding and humbling to read the citations for these awards. In Somerset we are so fortunate to have so many people who work hard on behalf of others in their town, village or hamlet."
