Wells toy shop closure sparks community tributes
By Laura Linham 24th Jul 2026
Wells customers have been sharing heartfelt messages after Kids Stuff Wells Toy Shop announced it is set to close as its owners retire. The Queen Street shop has prompted a flood of reaction from families who say it has been part of childhood in the city for years.
The independent toy shop, based at 20 Queen Street, has long been known locally for Lego, Playmobil, Hot Wheels, Matchbox cars, Christmas window displays and the dangerous ability to turn a quick browse into a small financial event.
One customer said Queen Street "won't be the same" without the shop, while another described Kids Stuff Wells Toy Shop as "part of the fabric of Wells". Others thanked the owners for their years in the city and wished them a happy retirement.
The comments also showed how many families associated the shop with childhood routines in Wells, from pocket-money toys to Christmas window displays. One customer said they would miss the Lego displays, while another said their children would be upset because they loved visiting the shop for Lego.
The owners were also praised for their service and place in the community. Customers described them as friendly, helpful and a "fantastic part of the community around the area".
The shop has not yet confirmed its final trading day.
