NatWest has spent £315,718 refurbishing its Wells branch, giving the city centre bank a fresh look and upgraded technology. The bank said the work is part of its wider investment in face-to-face banking, with no further branch closures planned until at least 2029.

For customers, that means a branch designed to feel less like a queue-and-counter errand and more like a modern place to sort out money matters properly. NatWest said the Wells site has been fitted with upgraded machines and technology to improve reliability, speed up service and cut down on maintenance and downtime.

The banking hall has also been given new, more comfortable seating areas, along with music and white noise technology to help improve privacy. Behind the scenes, colleague welfare facilities have been refreshed too, including upgraded bathrooms, dining areas and lounge space.

NatWest said the investment reflects its view that branches still matter, particularly in communities where many people and businesses continue to value in-person banking. The Wells branch will also keep supporting free financial education programmes, including Financial Foundations workshops and NatWest Thrive, which helps children from the age of five learn about money.

Graham Smith, branch manager in Wells, said: "This refurbishment is a real investment in Wells and demonstrates our commitment to the customers and communities we support every day. We've created a more welcoming and modern environment for customers, while also making sure our colleagues have the right facilities to deliver the best possible service.

"We're delighted to be able to offer improved customer spaces, upgraded technology and enhanced meeting facilities. These changes will help us provide a more modern banking experience, whilst maintaining the personal service and trusted relationships that remain so important to our customers."

The work in Wells forms part of a national NatWest programme worth more than £50 million over 18 months, with branches across the UK being refurbished. The bank said the aim is to support customers in the way that suits them, whether that is online, on the high street or through its mobile branch fleet.

Dipesh Mistry, regional director of branch banking for Central England, South West and Wales at NatWest, said: "The South West is a vibrant and diverse region, with proud communities, ambitious businesses and enormous potential for growth.

"At NatWest, we're committed to playing our part in that future by investing in places like Wells, supporting customers face-to-face and helping local economies thrive. Our promise to keep our branches open until at least 2029 reflects our commitment that we are here to grow alongside the communities we serve."

NatWest said it is also backing small businesses and entrepreneurs in the South West through its Accelerator Hub in Bristol, which offers free in-person events, networking and meeting spaces. The bank said the hub forms part of its Growing Together campaign, aimed at supporting UK economic growth.
