Cutting the ribbon to open the new Tourist Information Centre at Wells Town Hall

For years Wells people have called for the city's Tourist Information Centre to be returned to the Market Place.

So a crowd gathered to celebrate the new TIC's opening on Saturday in its former home at the front of Wells Town Hall.

Cutting the ribbon was a team effort by Wells Mayor John Osman and the Bishop of Bath and Wells, the Rt Rev Peter Hancock, who told the crowd that the new TIC would provide people keen to visit the city with all they need to explore what a wonderful place Wells is.

"Bringing the TIC back to the Market Place is a result of a wide partnership across the city and shows how so much we can get done by working together," said the Bishop's Palace chief executive Rosie Martin.

The partnership also includes the cathedral, Wells City Council, Wells and Mendip Museum, Wells Chamber of Commerce and Tourism, Wells businesses and Wells Civic Society.
