Drivers on one of the main routes between Wells and Shepton Mallet face disruption as Long Street through Croscombe closes for resurfacing work.

The temporary closure starts on Friday, 8 May, and is expected to last for five days.

It will affect around 761 metres of Long Street, the village road used by many motorists travelling between Wells and Shepton Mallet.

Kiely Bros will carry out the work on behalf of Somerset Highways.

The scheme includes preparation work, surface dressing, Kiely Lock treatment, stud removal and renewal, and lining work.

Wells City Council said the road will reopen when no works are taking place.

Signs will be put up on site, and drivers are being urged to follow the diversion and allow extra time.

Further closures may be needed later, with a separate notice to be issued if required.
