Wells will host a farming celebration with animals, tractors, and free milkshakes on Wednesday, 10 September, for Back British Farming Day.

Wells is set to celebrate farming with animals, tractors and free milkshakes in the Lidl car park next week.

The one-day event, organised by NFU Mutual Wells Agency, will take place on Wednesday 10 September from 10am to 5pm as part of Back British Farming Day.

The annual campaign, run by the National Farmers Union since 2016, shines a light on the food and farming sector. Now in its tenth year, it calls on the public to show support for farmers and growers across the UK.

Visitors to the Wells event can meet farm animals up close, see machinery on display and try free milkshakes made with milk supplied by Lidl.

Organisers say it is a chance to celebrate local produce and the people behind it.

Kim Brake, Agent at NFU Mutual Wells Agency, said: "NFU Mutual Wells are proud to support our farming community by organising this event along with the Central Somerset NFU Branch. Farmers are at the heart of our community and the food they supply vital to ensure the nation is fed. We are pleased to support our local farmers in bringing this to the attention of the public and engaging with them at this Back British Farming Day event."

Neil Macdonald, Chair of NFU Central Somerset Branch, added: "British Farmers play a vital role in feeding the nation. Food security is paramount, and this comes right down to local farming businesses. We know how important it is for the public to back local farms and by holding this event we get to talk to consumers on a one-to-one basis to both thank them and explain why this is so important to us and the nation's food supply."

Back British Farming Day has previously been marked in Wells with school visits, tractor runs and displays in the city centre. This year's Lidl car park event is expected to draw families and shoppers keen to show their support.
