Wells' Swan Hotel reopens with stylish new bar and modern makeover

The Swan Hotel in Wells is back in business – and it's had a serious glow-up.
After a two-week closure, the 600-year-old hotel reopened on Saturday with a brand-new bar area, revamped reception, and a sleek new look throughout, blending modern design with period features.
Fresh photos released ahead of the reopening show off the stylish new interiors – from the polished wooden floors and upgraded lighting to the contemporary seating areas that now complement the hotel's historic architecture.

The bar, once a cosy corner steeped in dark wood and tradition, has been completely reimagined. It's now lighter, more open, and ready to welcome both locals and visitors with a mix of classic elegance and modern comfort.
The reception area has also had a facelift, with new décor, updated fixtures and a more streamlined layout designed to make check-in smoother and more inviting.

Staff have been hard at work behind the scenes, and now they're preparing to throw open the doors to the public once again. In a statement, the hotel said: "We look forward to unveiling the finished work to you."

The Swan, which famously featured in the cult classic Hot Fuzz, has long been one of Wells' most iconic buildings – and a go-to for visitors wanting a view of the cathedral with their pint. Despite the upgrades, the hotel has retained its character features, including 16th-century beams and vaulted stone cellars.

The latest revamp follows planning approval earlier this year for new signage, lighting and internal changes – all designed to modernise the space without losing what makes it special.
Whether you're after a weekend stay or just fancy a drink in the newly updated bar, Wells' most famous hotel is open once again – and it's looking better than ever.
