Wells skatepark campaign nears £250k target
By Laura Linham 12th Mar 2026
The campaign to build a new skatepark in Wells has passed the £223,000 mark, with organisers now urging local businesses to help push the fundraising total to £250,000.
Supporters say reaching the next milestone would unlock further grant funding and move the long-planned project closer to construction.
The proposed skatepark is intended to replace the city's current ageing facility with a modern, inclusive space designed for skateboarders, scooter riders, BMX riders, roller skaters and wheelchair users.
Organisers say the project would also help revitalise part of the city while creating a space for creativity, social connection and wellbeing.
The design for the park has been shaped by local young people and the wider community, according to the campaign team.
Support for the project has also come from a number of organisations and groups in the area, including neighbourhood policing teams, The Blue School, youth workers, the city's MP, the Mayor and Wells City Council.
Businesses are now being invited to support the project through sponsorship packages.
Those include recognition options such as having a name placed on the park's main ramp for donations of £250 or more, more prominent recognition for contributions of £1,000 and lead sponsorship opportunities for donations of £5,000.
Campaign organisers say a number of local businesses and organisations have already backed the project, including Chubb Bulleid, St Andrews Press, Wolf Barbers, Yonder Brewing & Blending, City of Wells Lions, the Rotary Club, Wells Chamber of Commerce and Sunlit Solar.
Further details about the project and sponsorship options are available through the campaign's Wells Skatepark Project Crowdfunder page.
